What got you started in burlesque?

I was single for the first time after a 7 year long relationship. I happen to stumble across an ad for a burlesque workshop in town. Being in the middle of a huge self and life transition, the workshop showed me something that I never really knew could exist inside of myself. It was love at first sight. Pepper was the illegitmate love child product of that growth.

How log have you been performing?
2 years

What does burlesque mean to you?
Burlesque means that it's ok to be me. I am energetic, I laugh loud, and I feel that I am home when I am performing. It's my happy place.

Why Ohio?
I applied to the Ohio Burlesque Festival because I felt it was the right thing to do as I have a huge respect for the producer of the festival.

What got you started in burlesque?
I've always been interested in performance; when I was a kid I would regularly put on shows for other neighborhood kids, singing and dancing on my porch to Madonna songs (once, a girl friend and I tied up a couple of boys and forced them to watch our group routine). While in college back in early 2000's I remember reading an article in BUST about the World Famous *BOB* and the new burlesque scene popping up in NYC and I knew that's what I wanted to do. A brief stint working in a strip club furthered my desire to do burlesque because I had more of an artistic flare that the typical strip club audience did not appreciate. I also became obsessed with sideshows and was very sad that I lived in Indiana because I had no access to these performance options until a troupe was finally formed in Bloomington and I was able to audition.

How long have you been performing?
I've been performing burlesque for 2 years, one year spent with a troupe and the past year as an independent performer.

What does burlesque mean to you ?
Burlesque is over the top, it's supposed to push boundaries of femininity and masculinity. It's a way for women to take up space, express ourselves and take control of our bodies and the audience. It's been a wonderful way for me to work through body issues and is the perfect creative outlet for me.

Why Ohio?
I love the burlesque scene that is popping up in the midwest and wanted to support a new festival.

Vivacious

What got you started in burlesque?
I went to Paris and was inspired by the Crazy Horse girls. When I came back to the USA, I was lucky to get mentored in the ways of Burlesque, Erotic Performance, and Side Show by Polly Peabody, Pink Snow, and Eak the Geek.

How long have you been performing?
Been performing since I could walk and talk, been doing burlesque a little over a decade, since I knew where I was going and what I was saying.

What does burlesque mean to you ?
It's one of my 3 passions, the one that is an outlet to my creative and fun side.

Why Ohio?
Ohio is great! It birthed my favorite person, gush, my husband.

Describe your self in one word?
Raunchy?

What got you started in burlesque?
I was exposed to burlesque in 2003- always being of fan of the stage, glitter and glam- I auditioned and joined Detroit's hottest troupe (at the time).

How long have you been performing?
I have been performing since the early winter of 2004

What does burlesque mean to you ?
The power of a glamourous woman is a force to be reckoned with.

Why Ohio?
Ohio is my original home. I was born here.

Describe your self in one word?
Aw-inspiring!

What got you started in burlesque?
I used to be a lead singer in a Chicago metal band, and being a restless person I wanted to add a little something to my stage show. So I started adding grinders and fire and hooks to my acts. My band eventually broke up and I still wanted to be on the stage. One of my best friends Ammunition (www.missammunition.com), hooked me up with the right people and I just jumped in with both feet!
My husband David (http://www.facebook.com/david.bates2851) then created a metal/burlesque night called The Devils Playground, where I eventually became the producer and booker.

How long have you been performing?
I've only been doing burlesque since 2012. But I've build a pretty hefty resume and have a mini following.

What does burlesque mean to you ?
BOOBS! LOL! No, really it means empowerment and creativity. Where no matter what you look like, no matter your size, your a fucking rockstar!

Why Ohio?
I've never been to Ohio! I fell in love with Bella Sin's look and her accomplishments and wanted to be a part of that.

Describe your self in one word?
I had to get my husbands opinion on this one...he chose "Captivating"
